Are you staying in Belgium this summer? Well you know what? Me too 🙂 Yeah, I know, it might not make you feel better. But if you are short of idea to enjoy the good weather and the bad, I come to your rescue with my little list of fun activities to do with friends, family or alone if you are a loner in the soul.
Don’t blame it on the sunshine
First of all, protect yourself … from the sun.
1) Outdoor pools or water play areas
You might think otherwise, but in Belgium, there are more and more outdoor pools and water play areas where you can wade. I must say that it suits me well. My garden is not flat so installing a swimming pool is always a fail and ends up with a little argument with my beloved partner. The beach is a little bit far from home. So, when it’s hot, we go to one of these outdoor pools. For children, it’s pure happiness. Small advice: go in the morning, around 10 am, it’s usually less crowded.
2) Kayak
Kayaking is an activity that will last a whole day and on top of it, you’ll get to discover some beautiful landscapes while doing a little sport.
3) Festivals
Music fans will confirm: we are spoiled in Belgium. If you have children, you’ll find some nice festivals adapted to young people, even very young! You might sometimes get headphones for their little ears.
4) Adventure park
Trails in the woods, tree climbing, if you’re not afraid of heights and you’ve always dreamed of playing Tarzan or Spiderman, it’s undoubtedly the activity for you.
5) Educational farms
If you have young children, you will definitely have a good time. Some educational farms even organize fruits and vegetables picking so when you get home you can prepare a fruit salad or a good ratatouille.
6) Amusement park
There are some nice amusement parks or zoos in Belgium. I suggest to look at subscription options for the year. It’s often a very good way to save money if you’re sure to go there several times during the year.
I’m singing in the rain
Is it raining? Don’t worry, there’s always a way to have fun with these few indoor activities.
1) Laser game
Personally, I find it super great. If you want to get there with your children, have a look at the minimum age. I’m not very good at it but it’s a lot of fun!
The escape game is in my wishlist of activities to try. But I’ve heard that it’s awesome.
2) Skydiving simulator
The budget is a little higher for this activity but all those who tried it are completely delighted. I will do this activity in August with my kids. I won’t hesitate to share my feedback with you.
For all these activities, your friend Google will help you to find a “supplier” near you.
3) Museums
Did you know that every first Sunday of the month, you get free admission in lots of museums Wallonia-Brussels? This has had a massive impact on the affluence rate. To me it’s a good start to arouse the interest of young and old for culture.
A chapter on free activities
It’s obvious that you don’t have to pay for fun.
- Organize a picnic with friends near a playground.
- Take a day and / or night walk or ride a bike.
- Fit your tent in your garden. Kids love to go camping.
- Play Frisbee or Kite.
- And then a good little water gun fight as I suggested in one of my previous blogs still works!
Oh, and don’t forget, as my mother said, that getting bored is good for your health.
