Save your (outdoor) furniture ! Rent a storage unit !

Despite the exceptional temperatures of recent weeks, you’ll have to think about protecting all your outdoor equipment (if you haven’t done so already). There are of course a lot of objects that can stay in your garden shed during the winter, without any damage and if there is still room of course. But I would like to draw your attention to the self-storage option. It’s a great way to protect some objects (sometimes expensive) that cold, rain and snow could seriously damage.

Garden shedTo consider storing in a storage unit, make a list of what you really care about and what you want to protect.
Ask yourself those few questions and make the right decisions so you don’t end up with a storage unit full of useless things that will end up in a recycling park or your garbage bin:

  • Is this object broken, cracked or damaged? Is it worth it to keep?
  • If so, will you fix it or give it a new look? What use will you make of it?
  • Are you sure to use it next year?

These questions will help you sort out your belongings to rent adequate space for storing what you really use and not forgotten items at the bottom of the garden shed.

Your list is made? Perfect. Let’s review some precautions to take before storage:

Before bringing your items to your self-storage centre:
Storage unit full

  • Clean and drain the mower.
  • Degrease your barbecue. Be careful if you have a gas BBQ, remove the bottle before bringing it to your unit. No self-storage centre will accept that kind of storage.
  • Rinse and brush properly all your garden tools that you will store. Feel free to use your own shelves in your storage space to organise it.
  • Dust the beach umbrella.
  • Store the bikes during the winter will save you space. To avoid damaging them, store them upside down by putting your bike on the saddle and handlebars. Lubricate the chain. Place the bikes at the front of the box, near the shutter, just to remove them easily, if you wanted to make a nice bike ride in the sun. Little reminder : with Lokabox, you can access your storage unit every day, from 6am to 10pm.
  • Finally, for garden furniture, give it a good cleaning (dry it well too). Do not forget to protect the cushions. A small wash and dry (if adequate). Once clean and dry, pack it tightly.

You can now sleep on your two ears and enjoy the long warm autumn or winter evenings on your couch! All we take the plaids, slippers, chestnuts and hot chocolate?
