It’s a mess with the seasons right now, and maybe in your closets too. It’s true that with the temperatures we have experienced since the end of August, we have not really had the opportunity to get out all the gear to face the winter! All that to say that it might help you to master the art of changing wardrobes each season.
If like me you have a wardrobe to small for the amount of clothes, bags, shoes, etc. you’ve bought thoughtfully or compulsively or just because there-will-be-a-good-opportunity-to-wear-that-pretty-little-dress, this article is for you (and me)! Change your wardrobe between winter and summer is the first advice I give you. You can of course change it every season, but I personally do not have the time and especially I’m a fan of the mix spring / summer or fall / winter.
Sorting and saving
How many clothes are hidden in the bottom of drawers or on your rods? Seriously?
A lot of bloggers will tell you: sort your clothes and I’m sure you’ll find a whole bunch of forgotten items. This will save you from buying yet another little black dress for the holidays!
Washing and protecting
Yes, that’s right, it’s better to wash everything and dry it properly before storing. Stained clothes that are stored for several months, can deteriorate without mentioning the mold that may arise (ugh).
Folding or hanging ?
Obviously, this will depend on where you are going to store. But if the goal is to have more space in your wardrobe, it would be nice not to lose (too much) elsewhere. Folding your clothes correctly is the best option by sorting it by type (pants with pants, sweaters with sweaters). The ideal is to protect it in cloth bags. Don’t forget to protect your shoes by separating it with with towels or cloth napkins.
Storing in plastic bins
I could advise you to store your clothes in cardboard boxes. We sell it at LOKABOX in our great moving shop. But I will not do it here. To store textiles, it is much better to use plastic bins. On the one hand, they are airtight and, on the other hand, you will be able to easily locate the contents if you urgently need a mid-season jacket for an evening or a last-minute rendez-vous you got on a dating website (you must live with your time). And then, you never know with the unpredictable weather that Belgium can sometimes offer us. Be careful though if you iron before storage, let dry the laundry.
Cold, clean, dry, dark
This will be the first qualities it will take to the place you choose as storage space for your clothes. So be careful of the temperature of your attic, cellar or garage. Remember that the underside of your bed or unused suitcases are also adequate spaces for the seasonal storage of your clothes.
Clothes container
Also, don’t forget that clothing containers are available everywhere in each municipality. If you have some items in your collection you don’t wear anymore and that are in good condition, drop them in one of these containers, you will do a favor to a family that really needs it.
Second hand store
Think also about second-hand shops. It’s an effective way to recycle our clothes, avoid overconsumption and do something for our environment! In this regard, read the article (in French) from Ecoconso which we have already mentioned in this blog previously: Why buy second hand?
I don’t know about you but all this made me want to sort my wardrobe!
