To you, dear storage fans, I would like to talk to you today about Marie Kondo, the famous queen of storage. You may have heard of her method of folding laundry and storing it in your cabinets. Frankly, it amazes me every time! This, for my part, it’s how I discovered her. So today, I will share what I’m really interested with Marie Kondo: her way to sort all clothing.
I had the opportunity to watch one of her television shows where she advises to put on your bed all the clothes that you have, to take them one by one and to keep only those that gives you pleasure. Humm.
Well, well, well, I think it’s a good idea to sort your wardrobe. I talked about it in one of my article: ” Want a new wardrobe? Store what’s inside !” But personally, I think it’s a bit brutal and not always easy to do, especially when you have in your hands a dress or a top that has not been worn for ages …
So I thought about this issue and started a few weeks ago, a challenge a little different from Marie Kondo’s one but whose goal is the same.
The method: wear at least once each clothing before throwing it to oblivion or keeping it
Yeap, you read it well: every day, I wear a different clothing. I’m only talking about blouses or dresses here.
It must be said that I’m lucky all my blouses are on hangers, the upper rod for black and grey blouses and the one below for others.
I alternate each day between those at the top and those at the bottom. Once worn (and washed), I put the clothing back at the end of the line.
Given the fantastic weather of recent days / weeks, I’m not yet into dresses but I will not fail to use the same method. And anyway, my legs are still very white!
The benefits: change of look, no regret and economy
I must admit that it works pretty well for me. I (re) discover pieces I bought billions of years ago and that have finished, I sometimes don’t know why, in my wardrobe without ever getting my attention.
With this method versus that of our Marie Kondo, I don’t regret anything. This has happened to me 4 or 5 times since the beginning of my challenge to wear a garment and once in front of the mirror, I’d say “Oulala no, that’s not possible!“ #FashionFauxPas
These clothes that I no longer wear, I put them quietly in a bag. And when this bag is filled to the brim, I’ll go to my niece or my friends who choose whatever they like. And what remains in my bag will go in a clothes container.
Finally, I don’t (really) want to go to spend money in stores. I have whole rods of clothes that I have almost never, if at all, worn (yes, I assure you).
There are some exceptions though: parties, weather, the weekend
Of course, I allow myself from time to time to make exceptions to the rule. There are clothes that do not work for certain types of events. I do not really want to wear a blouse with stripes to move on the dancefloor on furious rhythms. Like get my leopard dress out to go to work… (I’m kidding I don’t have a leopard dress)
And then, there’s the weather that we must still consider, just not to catch the pit or on the contrary to not sweat drops at work. #ThanksGuiguiForTheAircon
The weekend is also an opportunity to relax and when you don’t go out, what is better than cocooning like in Bridget Jones’ mode with a good glass of wine and wear anything!
I leave you with that. I think I’ll have a walk in the corridors here and sing “All by myself” 🙂
